Act like one

Last night in class, Ustaz told us:
“You’re all Muslims. Be proud of who you are. Show the world that you’re a Muslim, act like a Muslim, dress like a Muslim, talk and do everything like a Muslim. Allah sees whatever you do.”

MashaAllah, I’m touched.

French films

Besides Malay movies and English speaking movies (i.e; American or British movies), do you like to watch movies from other countries?
Have you watch anything from Iran (TV Al Hijrah shows a lot of Iranian films), Europe and Korea?
Do you know that these ‘Foreign’ films are sometimes much better than the normal American movies we usually get hyped with?
I’ve been a fan of International films for years and their movies are mostly very real and more attached with normal people lives. Thus, you might see the world differently as these filmmakers can make superb films!
In conjunction with this year French Art and Film Festival, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) will put up some slots for 7 highly recommended French films from 24 May 2012 to 3 June 2012 at selected GSC cinemas.
Do watch the trailers, okay! I’m sure you’ll be excited as I am.
The films are:
The Intouchables
I really wanna watch this movie. My bro said it was really famous in France. Synopsis as below:
A true story of two men who should never have met - a quadriplegic aristocrat who was injured in a paragliding accident and a young man from the projects. The paralyzed millionaire forges an unlikely friendship with the Senegalese parolee he hired to take care of him. Two totally different worlds are going to mix themselves: Vivaldi and Earth Wind and Fire, fine letters and argot, suit and tracksuit... and create a unique friendship.
The Artist
I’m not sure if I’ll like this kind of movie but to those who will, don’t forget to watch this since it has won many awards especially at Academy Awards 2012. Synopsis of the movie:
Hollywood, 1927: As silent movie star George Valentin wonders if the arrival of talking pictures will cause him to fade into oblivion, he sparks with Peppy Miller, a young dancer set for a big break.
Romantic Anonymous
After watching the trailer, I think I’ll like this movie, though I haven’t watched it yet. Two persons with the same emotional problem, attracted to each other, seemed very unique.
Synopsis: What happens when a man and a woman share a common passion? They fall in love. And this is what happens to Jean-Rene, the boss of a small chocolate factory, and Angelique, a gifted chocolate maker he has just hired. What occurs when a highly emotional man meets a highly emotional woman? They fall in love, and this is what occurs to Jean-Rene and Angelique who share the same handicap. But being pathologically timid does not make things easy for them. So whether they will manage to get together, join their solitudes and live happily ever after is a guessing matter.

Service Entrance or Les Femmes du 6e etage
Synopsis: In 1960s Paris, a conservative couple's lives are turned upside down by two Spanish maids.

A cat in Paris
This is animated film about life of a cat. Erm, I’m not really into animated movies so, yeah.
Synopsis: Dino is a cat that leads a double life. By day, he lives with Zoe, a little girl whose mother, Jeanne, is a police officer. By night, he works with Nico, a burglar with a big heart. Zoe has plunged herself into silence following her father's murder at the hands of gangster Costa. One day, Dino the cat brings Zoe a very valuable bracelet. Lucas, Jeanne's second-in-command, notices this bracelet is part of a jewellery collection that has been stolen. One night, Zoe decides to follow Dino. On the way, she overhears some gangsters and discovers that her nanny is part of the gangsters' team.

Korkoro
Synopsis: A Gypsy family travels the French roads during the Second World War, followed by Little Claude, a young boy seeking a new family after his parents "left and never returned". Upon reaching a town where they traditionally stop for a few months and work in vineyards, they learn that a new law forbids them from being nomadic. Theodore, the town's mayor, and Miss Lundi, the schoolteacher, tries to protect and help the Gypsies. Despite this, They are arrested and placed in an internment camp. Theodore manages to rescue them and gives them a piece of property where they must settle. But the Gypsies' deeply ingrained thirst for freedom makes this sedentary lifestyle difficult to bear. After Theodore and Miss Lundi are arrested for resistance, the Gypsies decide they must get back on the move in order to remain free.

Father of My Children
Synopsis: Gregoire Canvel has everything a man could want. A wife he loves, three delightful children and a stimulating job. He's a film producer. Discovering talented filmmakers and developing films that fit his conception of the cinema is precisely his reason for living. He never stops, except on weekends, which he spends in the country with his family-gentle interludes, as precious as they are fragile. With his bearing and exceptional charisma, Gregoire commands admiration. He seems invincible. Yet his prestigious production company is on its last legs. But Gregoire plows on at all costs. Where will his blind obstinacy lead him?

Zahin

I love kids. I can spend hours playing, story-telling and giggling with them. Toddlers and babies are the cutest things on earth, I feel. For babies, just by looking at them, would definitely make my heart smile.
I’m sure most of you can just do nothing but staring at a baby sleeping. It’s the moment of peace and calming, isn’t it?
My best friend, Zaffi, gave birth to a handsome boy, named Zahin last 2 weeks. I didn’t have a chance to see him right away due to some circumstances but last weekend, I couldn’t wait any longer.
“Don’t worry, your godson is not going anywhere,” said Zaffi.
Auwwww… it made my heart melt.
Zaffi asked me what should his son called me? Since Zahin will be calling Zaffi ‘Mummy’, I think I’ll go with ‘Mama’.
I’m Mama Nad!
I love you, Zahin!

Al Falaq - The Dawn

I made doa before I came to my weekly tafseer class at Nadi Annissa two nights ago. The doa was to ask Allah to make me stay awake and put my full concentration towards ustaz’s lecture. Before this, I came to all classes with a tired face, yeah long day at work then attended class at night, I need Red Bull, man!
Alhamdulillah, Allah granted my doa. I sat comfortably in the class with my mind and my heart 100% focused on the lecture.
Ustaz discussed about Surah Al- Falaq this week. Previously, we’ve done with Surah Al- Fatihah and Surah An- Nas. Below is a very brief explanation about the surah for our knowledge.
Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the Dawn [1
From the mischief of created things; [2
From the mischief of Darkness as it overspreads; [3

From the mischief of those who practise secret arts; [4

And from the mischief of the envious one as he practises envy. [5]

1)    Falaq means beginning or dawn or daybreak. We start our daily lives in the early morning, at dawn. No surprise that even Rasulullah SAW advised us to start our day at subuh time – say no to sleeping till afternoon or late morning! Anyhow, we are tested with problems since we started our lives till the end or waqab (sunset).
2)    Allah SWT created so many things/ creatures on the earth including the dangerous ones. Insects and animals which are dangerous towards humans, are likely to be killed whenever they’re near or provide threats to humans. There are 2 animals/insects that humans allow to kill when we find them near us: snake and scorpion. But, eventhough we are allow to kill them, it’s encouraged to shoo them away first. Ustaz said, “Talk to it first, ask it to go out from the house. Give a few a minutes for it to go out.” They are Allah’s creations, hence they deserve to live too.

3)    We ask Allah for protection from any mischiefs which usually happens at night. Darkness here has two meanings – night and danger – in the dark. It’s better for us to stay in at night and not do forbidden things like entering the night clubs. Social activities usually happen at nights like drinking, parties, etc. According to ustaz, night clubs are usually open at nights and not the day, as night is beautiful for syaitans.
Another meaning of darkness is lack of knowledge. One will have trouble to perform solah, if one has no knowledge on doing it. Hence, he/she will continue living in darkness.

4)    Secret arts here mean black magic. In this world, black magic is widely known to be practicing by many people even in Malaysia itself. Ustaz told a story about two angels Harut and Marut who came to this world to test the people in Babylon with the black magic. They even warned them not to imitate their doings but some failed to oblige. Do remember that doing black magic is another way saying that you are a friend of syaitan.

5)    And the last verse reminds us about jealousy and hasad.  There are many people in our surroundings whose have jealousy towards us. They will try to put us down in many ways they can think of. This verse explains that we need to seek Allah’s protection from all people with jealousy and envy. Ustaz commented about why Muslim women are not allowed to show their aurah to non - Muslim women - due to jealousy and weaknesses. It’s better to keep our physical bodies covered whenever we are around them to ensure they are no backbites and fitnahs.

I felt so blessed to attend the classes every week as I managed to understand the words of Allah better. The Quran is a book with stories, rules, advices, etc. and I began to fall in love with it. Can’t wait for the next class!

I love you Mama

Abu Hurairah RA reported that a person came to the Messenger of Allah S.A.W and asked: “Who among people is the most deserving of my fine treatment?”
He S.A.W replied: “Your mother.”
He then asked, “Who next?”
The Prophet S.A.W replied: “Your mother.”
He asked again: “Who next?”
He S.A.W said again, “Your mother.”
He again asked, “Then who?”
He S.A.W said: “Your father.”
[Sahih Bukhari]

Thank you for everything, Mama. I love you!

Ballade pour Adeline

Do you remember the post of a harpist played a MARVELOUS song at Basilique du Sacre Coeur? I was trying to figure out what’s the title of the song. I know it’s a classical music coz I’ve heard it several times when I was small.
Finally, I found it!
It’s called Ballade pour Adeline (Ballad for Adeline) by Richard Clayderman.
AUWWWWWWWWWW… I’m so in love with the music!
Do you have any masterpiece of classical music that you like? Beethoven or Mozart, maybe?
